Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge, this is the best, creamiest chocolate fudge, made the old fashion way. The perfect homemade chocolate candy.
I’ve been a big fan of candy for a long time, especially anything chocolate, like these easy homemade filled chocolates or these Italian Chocolate Kisses/Baci.
Old fashioned chocolate fudge is everything a homemade fudge should be, so get your candy thermometer ready.
I searched and searched for the chocolate fudge I tasted when I was 8 or 10 years old, if you can believe it! That fudge would melt in your mouth and be just a little crumbly.
Ingredients
2 cups of sugar
4 tablespoons Hershey’s cocoa
1 stick of salted butter
5 ounce can of Carnation Evaporated Milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
nuts are optional
Directions
Combine the sugar and cocoa in a saucepan, then add a stick of butter and the can of evaporated milk, and stir until the mixture begins to boil.
Stir continuously for 7 minutes, then remove from heat and add the vanilla, then stir the mixture continuously for 3 minutes, then pour into a buttered baking dish to set.
Great fudge in under 20 minutes!
Hershey’s Old Fashioned Fudge has always been my favorite, but it was so hard to get right.
Thanks for sharing a recipe that tastes just as good, but is so much easier! It was perfect the first time around!
I love making fudge
I have a very old recipe for peanut butter fudge passed down in my family for generations
Would love to see it if you can share the recipe. Peanut butter fudge is my favorite and I miss the fudge from when we were kids. It’s all soft, frosting consistency now.
Peanut butter fudge
1 stick butter
3 cups domino sugar
2/3 cup whole milk
Cook over medium heat until soft ball temp. Or approximately 7 minutes.
Add small jar marshmallow cream and small jar peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix with mixer
Pour onto buttered plate
Could u share it please ☺️
Hi Teresa – would you please share your Peanut butter Fudge recipe. My mother-in-law made the best, but no one in the family has the recipe.
Thank you!
Would love to get your recipe for peanut butter fudge. My mother in law used to make it
I would love to have that recipe
can you share the recipe for the fudge? [email protected]
What size dish do u use
How many ounces is a “stick” of butter?
4 ounces
Going to try this very soon.
Thank you
What makes it not set properly?
Add some of the caramel mount morsels with peanut butter and put in cooked the same way
That was a Big flop, turned into chocolate tar, you could pitch your roof with.
This recipe was a complete bust! Followed the instructions and ended up with something that looks and tastes like very thin uncooked brownie batter.
Yoy heve to cook or boil until it reaches a soft bell or hard stage. U dint beat fir 3 minutes while it’s cooling then pour in osn. I didn’t try this but your directions seem to be off . I use evap milk and that has to reach 236 at least .
These commenters staring theirs were batter , that’s why ,
Sorry for spelling . My fingers are too fat for phone keyboard . Had good intentions though lol
I read through all the comments before finishing this. I took Mar E.’s advice taking it to the 236 degrees – which was about 8 minutes. I didn’t stop stirring from the time I put it on the burner until it reached 236. Then I stirred for just past 3 minutes after adding the vanilla and removing from heat. By the time I poured it in my pan to cool, it was forming a nice consistency. It’s still cooling, but I think Mary’s advice will help avoid some of the issues other commenters encountered.
Did not set up…guess I can use it for topping on ice cream! Will be looking for a different recipe!
2 factors in making the fudge with peanut butter my mother said the humidity has to be right and if you’re female you can’t be having your period it will not set she also never stirred while cooking she scraped the sugary top off every few minutes until it reached softball took it off heat added peanut butter and vanilla and stirred it about 5 minutes best damn fudge I ever had my sister makes it now not as good but still yummy
